Donald Beane

Obituary of Donald D. Beane

Don Beane of Southampton, NY and New York, NY: May 2, 1945 – January 12, 2021 Donald D. Beane, born May 2, 1945, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Laconia, NH to Marjorie T. Beane and Roger H. Beane, he attended the Tilton Preparatory School on academic scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Science from Lehigh University, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration from the Columbia School of Business. A self-proclaimed “trading junkie”, Don spent his career in financial services, first at Olin Corporation and then Trans World Airways. He joined Morgan Stanley in New York in 1973 where he was Treasurer, and resided in Wilton, CT. In 1981, Don and his family moved to Weston, MA where he worked as Chief Operating Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer at Harvard Management Company 1981 – 1990 (Boston, MA). Don founded NewValue Managers in 1990, a venture capital firm for hedge funds (Wellesley, MA). While running NewValue, Don moved to Los Angeles and joined one of the funds, Camden Asset Management, where he was Chief Operating Officer until his retirement in 2003 (Los Angeles, CA). In addition to his love of the markets, Don was passionate about all-things sports, golf, fishing, politics, wine – and most intensely – his family and friends. He was a long-time member of Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles and fostered many friendships and memories there over the years (shoutout to the 19th Hole!) In 2001, he created a family-centric retreat for him and his daughters to congregate on the East Coast in Southampton, NY. Most recently, he divided his time between an NYC apartment (a life-long dream) and his home in Southampton, where he ultimately spent his final days. He is survived by his beloved sister Beverly (Ed Liebfried), his devoted and super-fun daughters and their husbands, Sarah Beane Ricca (Joe) and Jennifer DeLalio (Perry), and his most-excellent grandchildren Colin, Tessa, Catie and Maddie.
