Obituary of Barbara S. Pierse

Barbara S. Pierse, 96, of Long Island, New York, passed away on October 26, 2020. Born and raised in New York City and Long Island, Barbara and her husband Harold of 63 years moved to Hobe Sound, Florida in 1988 but upon Harold’s death in 2013, she came full circle, returning to New York. Barbara was a devoted mom, caring for her children in Commack, Long Island. A voracious reader, Barbara took a job at he library, where she enjoyed being among the community. After her retirement, she stayed active in her book club, took up painting as a hobby, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound for 20-plus years and, more recently, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Lake Ronkonkoma. She was a member of the Rosary Alter Society. Surviving is her three daughters: Linda M. Unterstein of Shoreham, NY, Joann P. Williams of Waleska, GA, Carol A. Laffey of Southampton, NY and Patricia Jean Ortmann of Lindenhurst, NY; his son John H. Pierse of Norwich, CT and is also survived by twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Pierse and her daughter, Susan E. Pierse. A wake will take place on Friday, October 30, 2020 from 9:30-10:30 am at the Brockett Funeral home in Southampton. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the wake at 11 am at The Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island, NY.
