Jackie Walker

Obituary of Jackie Walker

Jacqueline Isalyn Comic Walker, known to friends and family as Jackie, died on July 10, 2020 at Stonybrook Hospital. The cause of death was a massive heart attack followed by a stroke. Jackie was born November 1, 1952 , the third of six children, to Wilfred Comic and Beatrice Henrietta Christian of Freetown Village in the St. Phillips Parish, Antigua, West Indies. She went to school in Antigua and after graduating, worked for many years at the Mill Reef Club. She met her husband, Dalma Halista Walker, in Antigua and they moved to the states in 1980. They had four children together. Mrs. Walker worked at Jamaica hospital and a private nursing home, taking care of the elderly, while Mr. Walker was a personal chef for a family in Manhattan. Mrs. Walker moved with Mr. Walker and their children to East Hampton in 1995. Her eldest son by a previous marriage moved from Antigua to East Hampton a few years later. Mrs. Walker worked for Coco Myers [the Rowen family] for 25 years as a nanny and housekeeper. She considered Max, Harrison and Jensen Rowen her children and they considered her their “other” mother. She raised them from infancy, continued to care for them after their father’s death in 2009, and worked for the family right up to her death. Mrs. Walker is survived by her five children: Andy K. Brodie, Wesley N.C. Walker, Jamal D. Walker, and Jared H. Walker, of East Hampton, and Shari S. Walker Velazquez of Manhattan, a sister, Nyoka Sheppard of Queens, and a brother, Renworth Nathaniel, and sister, Cherron Nathaniel, of Antigua. Jackie has numerous nieces and nephews, both in Queens and in Antigua, and six grandchildren, three of whom live in Bridgehampton. Remembered by many as a warm, nurturing woman, with a ready, open laugh and great sense of humor, Mrs. Walker enjoyed reading and taking walks on the beach. She spent many evenings having home-cooked dinners with her sons, and loved visiting her daughter in New York for shopping outings and occasional parties. She will be cremated and buried in Antigua when the travel restrictions are lifted. Services will be held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, Sunday, July 19, followed by a memorial reception at the Rowen home in East Hampton.
