Beverly Jensen was born on July 18, 1943 to Arthur and Alvilda "Kitty" Crippen of the Shinnecock Indian Nation. She attended the Shinnecock Indian School in the first grade and attended the Southampton Schools. She graduated from Greenwich High School in Connecticut in 1961. She married Robert Jensen of New York City in 1964. She attended Brockport State University, Queens College and her daughter Lori was born during this time. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Honors. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Journalism from Columbia University, Graduate School of Journalism. She worked for several newspapers and magazines including Indian Country Today and the Southampton Press. She wrote a curriculum for Native American History for grade school children for Newsweek. Beverly worked with Winona Warren and David Bunn Martine to complete the first draft of the Constitution for the Nation. She worked for 15 years as the Communications Director for the Nation and assisted with media. Correspondence, served as official spokesperson for the Nation and other duties for the Council of Trustees. She authored the book, "Images of America - Shinnecock Indian Nation."
Beverly Jensen is survived by her husband Robert Jensen and her daughter Lori Gomez, her fiancé Jessie Gonzalez, grandchildren Alyssa Sunbow Gomez, Alexandria Springwater Gomez, Elijah Stormstar Gomez and her great-grandson Phillip Chavez.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Alvilda "Kitty" Crippen of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, siblings Carmen L. Murphy, Thom C. Crippen, and Cheryl Munoz. She is survived by two brothers, Arthur "Mike" and Wayne Crippen and three sisters Joan Williams and brother-in-law Donald Williams, Roma Niles, Laurie Saunders and brother-in-law Ulysses L. Saunders. She is survived by a brother-in-law Harry Jensen and a sister-in-law Shirley Jensen-Crippen. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends and loved ones.
A graveside service was held July 15, 2020 at Shinnecock Cemetery, Shinnecock Indian Nation. Pastor Preston Brown officiated and Father Mike Vetrano offered committal prayers. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
