Obituary of Gary P. DeLalio

Gary P. DeLalio After a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Gary Peter DeLalio passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020 at the Westhampton Care Center. Gary was born on May 2, 1954 in Bethpage to parents, Perry & Eileen DeLalio, Sr.. Gary graduated from Bethpage High School in 1972, and Bentley College in 1976, majoring in Business Management. He moved to Southampton in 1977 to work with his brother, Perry, and father in the family business, Southampton Coal & Produce. Gary and then wife, Patti, raised their two children, Kate & Mike, in Southampton. Gary received his masters in Gerontology from Southampton College in 1992. Gary was a lifetime member of Kiwanis Club, serving first as Treasurer, then President from 1989 to 1990. He volunteered for Respite, a visiting service for elderly Southampton residents, for a number of years. As the years & disease progressed, you could find Gary scooting along in his motorized wheelchair throughout Southampton Village attending programs at Rogers Memorial Library. Gary was well known through the community, particularly to members of the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance who came to his aid on any number of occasions. Gary is survived by his brother, Perry DeLalio, Jr. and wife Sarah; two children Kate Turza and husband, Brian, and Mike DeLalio and wife, Keri; his five beautiful grandchildren, Jameson & Charlotte DeLalio, and Molly, Callen & Brady Turza. Gary is also survived by his former spouse, Patti Staker and the community which he adored. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary’s name to Southampton Animal Shelter 102 Old Riverhead Road, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 and Southampton Kiwanis Club P.O Box 5040, Southampton NY 11969. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 30th from 5-7pm at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. Private interment at Sacred Hearts Cemetery.
