Obituary of Curley Mae Brooks

Sunrise October 30,1933 Sunset May 6,2020 Curley Mae Brooks entered eternal life on May 6, 2020 at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson New York. She was 86. She was Born in Fort Valley Georgia to the late Curley and Adella Collier. The family moved to Florida, and later migrated to New York when she was very young. There, she attended Riverhead Central School District. In 1949 at the tender age of 16, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Joseph Brooks. Widowed as a young mother, her faith and strength were challenged. Birthing eight children, her commitment to them was her priority. Her family meant everything to her. She worked several jobs over her lifetime to provide care for her children. In 1999, she retired from Independent Group Home Living. She relocated to Stafford Virginia in 2002. After spending several years in Virginia, she relocated to Michigan in 2013. Her heart desired to return back home to New York in 2015. She was a member of The Galilee Church of God and Christ of Riverhead until she moved to Stafford Virginia, which is where she received her baptism. She had a heart of gold, and she would help anyone in need. Curley was nicknamed Tot by her sister Jannie and was affectionately called Tot by her children and all of their friends. She prided herself in her love for cooking big meals and getting up at sunrise to prepare for the best barbeques. She loved the company of family, holidays, shopping, trips to the casino, watching T.V, (especially her old westerns). She also loved to spend some days listening to the old school music channel. At 86 years old, she still took pride in dressing nice, accessorizing, having her hair and nails done and wearing her makeup. One of her favorite quotes was, “Mothers’ looking good, looking good!” Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, knew one thing for sure, she said what she meant, and she meant what she said! Over her lifetime she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her sassy, witty, strong personality, quick clap backs, laughter and stylish sense of fashion will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.
