Ida Aldrich

Obituary of Ida E. Aldrich

Ida E. Aldrich of Southampton passed away on December 6, 2019 after a short hospitalization, she was 92. Ida was born in Bangor, Pennsylvania to Marguerite (Yeager) and George L. Kuhlman. At an early age the family moved to Southampton, New York and Ida attended Southampton Public School graduating in 1945. In 1947 Ida and her high school sweetheart, Edwards L. Aldrich were married, shortly thereafter they moved to North Sea to start a family. Ida was employed by the Southampton Lumber Corporation as a bookkeeper and in 1965 was hired in the Southampton school systems transportation department as a school bus driver. This position, she thoroughly enjoyed until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal church choir for 50 years and a member of the North Sea Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary. Each spring and summer Ida could be found in her garden, tending her vegetables and the many different types of flowers she grew, which was a great source of pleasure to her. She was an avid reader of books, and would spend hours solving cross word and picture puzzles, while still finding time to do sewing projects and building doll houses. Mrs. Aldrich is survived by her sons, Chris Aldrich of Danville, Virginia and Lance and Amy Aldrich of Southampton, NY and grandsons Daniel and Grady Aldrich. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Edward L. Aldrich. Mrs. Aldrich's family would like to thank Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, especially the nursing staff of two North for their care and compassion during Ida's hospitalization. In lieu of flowers donations to the North Sea Fire Department scholarship program would be appreciated.
