Obituary of Keith Scott Krzyzewski
Keith Scott Krzyzewski, 46 of Southampton, NY passed away without suffering due to unknown natural causes in Port Jefferson on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 unexpectedly.
Krzyzewski was born February 7th, 1973 and was a Southampton native. Krzyzewski graduated Southampton High School in 1991. Class of 1991 would remember Krzyzewski as an avid, accomplished, well rounded student athlete. Krzyzewski excelled in four years of varsity baseball and football while maintaining his place on the high honor’s, principal’s list. Teammates will recall a proud Krzyzewski wearing a Southampton Mariners, number 24, football jersey. Krzyzewski was also voted homecoming king amount his peers.
After high school, Krzyzewski continued his education at SUNY Plattsburgh, earning a bachelor’s degree. Krzyzewski began work as a teacher for Sag Harbor Elementary School as the fun loving, “Mr. K”. Mr. K’s kindness and compassion for others was emanated throughout his 17 years at Sag Harbor Elementary School by working with students with special needs. He would, without question, go above and beyond for his students and their families. Mr. K was an incomparable, exemplary role model for all of his students and fellow teachers.
Krzyzewski was a devoted fisherman and hunter. Following his father’s footsteps, his love for the ocean began as a young boy. Rain or shine, Krzyzewski spent most of his time out at sea accompanied by his black lab. Krzyzewski made sure his passion for the sea was passed on to others. He often spent time on his boat with friends, family, and students, teaching them how to fish and respect the ocean. He spent the last hours, before passing, on his boat with his son in Shinnecock Bay and with his brother, and fishing buddy, Michael Krzyzewski.
He is survived by his mother Betty Krzyzewski, two older brothers Frank (Paula) and Michael Krzyzewski, his wife Kathleen Caffrey, his son, Marine PFC Ryan Caffrey, and four nieces and nephews Samantha, Brittany, Franklin, and Aaron Krzyzewski. Krzyzewski is preceded in death by his father Frank Krzyzewski.
