Obituary of Thomas X. Giaccone
Thomas Xavier Giaccone, an artist and longtime resident of Wainscott, NY died peacefully at home on January 8, 2019 after a prolonged illness. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Giaccone is survived by Mary, his wife of 30 years. After finishing the restoration of his original schoolhouse home in Laurel Hollow, NY, they built their dream home together in Wainscott where he spent his days painting in his home studio.
Mr. Giaccone was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School, Colgate University (1949) and Columbia University Teachers College where he graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts. He is a veteran of the Korea War. After the war he was the owner of his own design firm Giaccone Graphics in New York City and then subsequently took a full time teaching position at the Fashion Institute of Technology when he retired as the Chairman of the Advertising Department.
Mr. Giaccone was known for hosting wonderful gatherings of family and friends. He will be missed greatly by his wife, stepchildren, grandchildren, nephews and cousins.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life memorial service at Brockett Funeral Home on Saturday January 19, 2019 at 10 -11:00 am. All are welcome to participate and share a memory with his family and friends. The family has suggested memorial donations to Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center (ADRCinc.org) and East End Hospice (eeh.org).
