Obituary of Steven Johnson
Steven Anthony Johnson, the youngest of four brothers, was born on March 10, 1961 in
Elizabeth City, NC, to the late William "Pete" and Catherine Johnson. He was raised inSouthampton, NY in a close-knit community of family and friends on Pulaski Street.
Stevie departed this life for eternal life on February 20, 2018 at Southampton Hospital
with his brother, William and close friend and neighbor, Mrs. Evelyn Taylor, at his side.
Stevie graduated from Southampton High School in June of 1980 where he played
basketball, a sport which he later enjoyed form his recliner. He also loved to watch all
sports, especially NASCAR while the music blasted throughout the house. He was an
avid reader of the New York newspapers.
Stevie had an open-door policy. "Come on in." He loved inciting family and friends over
for cookouts, and he knew that his dear friend, Ms. Evelyn, would make his favorite
For about five years, Stevie worked at Hull Chevrolet as a detailer. At the onset of his
illness, he had to commit to taking care of his health; he later endured many surgeries,
hospital stays, and doctors visits. In spite of his personal health issues, he dedicated
himself to caring for his mother.
Stevie was always joyful and hopeful. As he would say,"I'll be alright in a minute" and He
would greet you by saying, "how you be!" At Christmas time, his greeting was "joy, joy."
He loved his family and friends. Stevie loved giving and sharing whatever he had.
Stevie leaves behind his loving brothers, William Johnson and Walter Davis and sister-
in-law, Gloria Jean. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Douglas Johnson.
Stevie leaves aunts, Mrs. Mary Shannon and Mrs. Rosa Lee Spellman, nieces, nephews,
cousins, and many friends who will cherish his memory.
